No Life –> No More Life

Friday, February 24th, 2006

When ALT and I were approved to transfer to another department, we have prepared ourselves mentally that we will become busier as the demand of the new job will be much higher.  And we always joked among ourselves that we already don’t have a life, will transferring to a much more busy department will totally rob our social life away?

It seems to be true for ALT.  ALT practically worked from 7.30am to 10pm.  It makes me wonder whether it’s overworked or understaffed?  My nightmare has yet to start.  I’m hoping that it won’t arrive at all.

What would you do when you already have no life, and yet you made another decision that causes you to have no more life?

The Farewell Dinner

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

I believed most of us have attended some sort of farewell dinner at some point of our life.  And always during dinner there will be some kind of presentation, either slideshows or speeches.  Most of the time, the speaker will share the experiences he or she had with the person leaving.  And 99.9% of them will mentioned on how good/kind/thoughtful of him or her.

And it made me think,

“Why only during farewell that the goodness of a person is being highlighted?”

If I am the person who is leaving, I would prefer to hear all the compliments before I leave.  Not when I am leaving.

Why?

I believe that praises (genuine ones, of course) will make one feel alive and appreciated by people who work with/along them. And also will make one more enthusiastic about their roles and responsibilities.  This definitely will make the job worth doing and will lead to a better outcome.

Furthermore, what’s the use of compliment when one is already leaving?  Not that he or she could put them in the CV for the next job interview or such.

Malaysians are just not generous enough with their praises and compliments.  How often do you hear, “Well done!” or “Good job!” from your superiors, peers and family? Maybe they are suffering from the disease ‘Save the best till last’, which lead to the farewell speeches of goodness and kindness during a farewell.

Cheers,

Axiao

p.s.  Praise me when I do good.  Shoot me when I do wrong.  Lead me when I got lost.  Don’t save it to the end.
